Latvian Radio Big Band and Aija Vītoliņa. Nordic Jazz

Continuing the tradition started by the Latvian Radio Big Band and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, for the fourth autumn in a row, the Big Band Composition Contest for Young Baltic and Nordic Composers will be held, inviting young composers to create new pieces for a jazz orchestra with a soloist: this time - for vocals, featuring the vocalist Aija Vītoliņa. In the final stage of the competition, the concert Latvian Radio Big Band and Aija Vītoliņa. Nordic Jazz in the Spīķeru Concert Hall, a selection of the young composers’ works will be performed, and the featured pieces will be determined through a special selection was completed by November 1, 2023. 10 composers from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark and Norway have made it to the final stage of the competition.

The concert will also feature one of the latest Latvian Radio Big Band programmes: Andris Buiķis’ songs with with lyrics of Latvian poetry - Sajust grūvu (Feel the Groove). Special guest: Aija Vītoliņa.
