Rossini, Vasks and Brahms

Having performed together the music of a wide range of ages and styles not only in the trios they’ve founded - the colorful Art-i-Shock and the elegant SOL - but also in other collectives, this time Egnese Egliņa and Guna Šnē have joined forces to creatively explore the repertoire of the cello and piano duet. Together, they invite listeners to celebrate the 230th birthday of the master of charmingly playful opera music Gioachino Rossini by listening to the composer’s sentimentally elegiac opus Une Larme or A Tear, as well as the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s virtuoso variations on the Italian composer’s famous operatic melody. Alongside this reverential dedication, we shall also hear he composer’s romantic contemporary Johannes Brahms’ chamber music masterpiece: the monumental Sonata for Cello and Piano in F Major, as well as Pēteris Vasks’s undeservedly rarely performed Partita for Cello and Piano, which was written nearly half a century ago.
