Schuman’s Cello Concerto and Mozart’s Symphony

The rebirth of a lost masterpiece, a love letter, and the effervescent spirit of Mozart will charge the collaboration between the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and the young, extraordinarily gifted Russian cellist Anastasia Kobekina. Her name first resonated through the global culture scene in connection with the 2008 Eurovision finale, and in 2019, A. Kobekina became a finalist of the International Tchaikovsky Cello Competition. The Latvian audiences stand to discover not only her cello play, but also the selected concert - Robert Schumann’s forgotten masterpiece that only saw its premiere after the composer’s death. Written in the language of dodecaphony, the love letter encoded into the Lyric suite will capture the world of the Austrian composer Alban Berg’s feelings for his mistress, but the crowning jewel of the programme will be Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s masterpiece, echoing with themes from Don Giovanni and triumphing with Mozart's otherworldly symphonic harmony.
