Gems of Venetian Baroque

Fiercely flamboyant and gently soothing, uplifting and full of unbearable yearning, destructive and inspiring is the love so vividly and truthfully depicted by Italian masters of Renaissance and baroque. Pioneer of the passionate style Monteverdi speaks of the sweetness of heartbreaking love, while Frescobaldi uses elegant ease to paint pictures of wind gusts and alluring forest nymphs. Lotti tells of a magic and unforgettable kiss, and Scarlatti moves with a lullaby embraced in motherly love. The infinitely talented Venetian singer and composer Strozzi encourages Cupid to stay alert and gift us with his arrows of love!

The many shades of love, persistent and ever-present, will be illuminated at the Early Music Festival by three experts of historically accurate performance – Elīna Šimkus, graced with a clear soprano voice and charming stage presence, traverso flute virtuoso Kristīne Stumbure, and Milan-born Mauro Pinciaroli, who will play the theorbo, a guitar with an extended neck and bass strings. Along with intricate vocal passages, the Small Guild will be filled with instrumental episodes illustrating anxious heartbeats, spirited moments of reflection, and joyful dance.
